In the first month of preparation, it is key for students to compile all of their relevant study material for each section of the examination. Doing so will ensure students have a good understanding as to what they are getting themselves into and to take their preparation process seriously.

Conceptual Understanding

More than just trying to cover as many topics as possible, an effective strategy for preparing for the CLAT examination is to thoroughly understand and grasp the concepts of the syllabus. Students have to cover a wide variety of topics ranging from legal aptitude to quantitative abilities, which can be difficult to do through rote learning. Thoroughly grasping and understanding concepts can allow students for a much deeper and well-thought understanding on topics and sections of the CLAT exam.

Create a Timetable

Creating a well-organized and well-thought out schedule in the initial stages is key in ensuring students have a strong start in their preparation process for CLAT. Read Newspapers and Legal Journals: This tip is mainly for the English and Legal Aptitude sections. It is recommended for students to read legal news and legal journals to properly develop their reading abilities and speed for the CLAT exam. Time is of the essence during a competitive exam such as CLAT. Being able to read quickly and accurately while also processing legal information is important for students to be able to score well on these sections.

Start Taking Mock Tests: While not giving mock tests in short durations, it is very much recommended for students to begin taking mock exams in this month. Mock exams in this stage can help in the building of speed and accuracy which is essential for students. There are several resources students can use for finding mock tests including reference books, online forums and previous years’ question papers.

Month 3

Strengths and Weaknesses: At this stage of preparation for the CLAT examination students should have studied well enough to evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses. Students should thoroughly revise the concepts that they already know well. Strengths are key in making sure students are confident in what they know on the exam. Analyzing weaknesses is also an important step for students to score higher. Finding shortcuts, quick tricks and easy explanations for topics that you are weak in can help students improve in the more tricky areas of the CLAT examination.

Reach Out In Case of Any Doubts: Tying into the previous tip, in case students have any doubts, it is crucial students reach out to tutors or mentors in case of doubts about the exam. Doubts could be about topics of the exam or about how the exam environment for CLAT is in general. If students are preparing for CLAT completely on their own, they can use online forums and websites to seek guidance. This month is crucial for students to build confidence in themselves for the CLAT exam.

Month 4

This is the most important month of preparation for the CLAT exam. This month requires a lot of discipline and focus on behalf of students looking to take and can make or break a student’s performance on the CLAT examination.

Effective Mock Tests

At this stage, mock tests should be the primary form of practice and revision for students taking the CLAT exam. Students should be answering questions in a shorter time period and simulating the actual experience of giving the CLAT exam. Students must focus on answering all questions on the mock exam with precision and speed. Students should time their mocks and make sure they finish all questions in less than 2 hours.

Thorough and Effective Revision

Besides mock tests, students should thoroughly go through the key concepts, topics and sections of the examination. It is also recommended for students to use notes, mind-maps and online learning which can help in a better revision process for the CLAT exam. Making and using short-notes during this stage of preparation can also be of huge assistance when revising for the exam. This can ensure stronger clarity in the important topics without spending too much time on constantly studying.

Avoid New Topics

This tip should mainly be employed during the final 7 to 10 days of preparation for the CLAT exam. Starting any topic when preparing for the CLAT examination at this stage can cause more harm than good for students. Beginning any new topic this late in preparation can cause confusion which can negatively affect a student’s performance and confidence on the actual CLAT exam.

Take Care of Themselves

Another tip which students should be using throughout the preparation process but is especially important during the final month of preparation is for students to take care of themselves. Keeping a positive mindset while taking care of themselves especially during the last few days of preparation can significantly boost a student’s confidence before the CLAT exam. Worrying about the CLAT exam can do more harm than good to students and negatively affect their overall performance. Taking breaks by doing favourite hobbies is especially recommended for students to avoid burn out and fatigue during preparation. Using methods such as meditation and deep-breathing can be very helpful to remaining calm in moments of stress.
