CLAT 2026 Exam Pattern

Students preparing for CLAT must be familiar with the CLAT exam pattern in order to plan an effective preparation strategy that is designed to get results.

Mode of Exam: Offline (pen and paper, OMR based).

Duration: 2 hours (120 Minutes).

Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Total Questions: 120.

Marking Scheme: +1 for a correct answer and -0.25 for an incorrect answer.

For UG: The questions will include English Language, Current Affairs (including GK), Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

For PG: The questions will relate to Constitutional law, Jurisprudence, and relate to various law subjects including, but not limited to, Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR, and Environmental Law.

How to Prepare for CLAT?

  • Develop an understanding of the framework and topics of examination before you begin.
  • Devote yourself to practice based on comprehension, as CLAT is strongly passage-based.
  • In your reading materials, include newspapers, editorials, and judgments to develop speed and understanding.
  • Make reading habits your best friend. Revise English, GK, Reasoning and Law regularly.
  • For GK or Current Affairs, make daily + monthly notes instead of putting in the last-minute work to cram.
  • Solve the CLAT previous year's papers to understand question patterns for questions and difficulty levels.
  • Conduct proper mock tests regularly and analyze your mistakes for improvements in scoring & accuracy.
  • Time management is crucial to realistic scenarios in formulating optimal no. of times you will need to practice.
