WBBSE Revises Madhyamik Age Criteria for 2026-27: Class 10 Exams Scheduled from February 2

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has made significant changes in the eligibility criteria for the Madhyamik Pariksha 2027. According to the revised norms, only students who are 15 years of age or older will be allowed to appear for the Class 10 board exams.

The WBBSE issued an official notification reinforcing the age policy that stems from previous government directives dated July 31, 1991, and October 28, 2005. These orders had initially defined the minimum age requirements for school admission from Class 9 downwards.

In its latest circular, the board clearly stated, "Candidates born after October 31, 2012, will be considered eligible to appear for the Madhyamik Pariksha, 2027. Schools are advised not to submit names of students whose date of birth falls after this cut-off date."

WB Madhyamik Routine 2026 Released

In addition to the updated eligibility rule, the WBBSE has also announced the West Bengal Madhyamik exam timetable for the 2026 session. As per the official schedule released on the board’s website, the Class 10 exams will commence on February 2, 2026, and conclude on February 12, 2026.

Students preparing for the Madhyamik exam are advised to refer to the routine and start their preparations accordingly. The board is expected to release subject-wise exam dates and timings in due course on its official portal.

New Academic Reforms for Higher Classes

In a broader move to revamp the secondary and higher secondary education system, the board has introduced a semester system for Classes 11 and 12. Under this new academic structure, students will now face examinations in two terms. The first-ever Class 12 semester exam has been scheduled from September 8 to 22 this year.

These changes align with the board’s objective to modernize curriculum delivery and ease the academic load on students through phased assessments.

For updates related to exam patterns, detailed subject schedules, and curriculum changes, students and school authorities are encouraged to follow the WBBSE official website regularly.
