The controversy surrounding the declining trend of placements at one of India's most prestigious technical institutions has sparked a heated debate. This has raised questions about the quality of education and the job market for engineering graduates.
In a recent statement to India Today, IIT Madras stated that the placement process is underway. The institute's diverse student has varied aspirations, with some aiming for higher education, others aspiring to start their businesses and explore entrepreneurship, and some planning to appear for competitive exams like civil services. The placement report for the current academic year will only be available at the end of July 2024, following the convocation ceremony.
Based on the data collected from the RTI Report, Dheeraj Singh has drawn an analysis suggesting that the IITs could see a rise in the number of unplaced students compared to the previous year.
According to the latest report of IIT Madras Placement 2024, a total of 2100 students had registered for the job opportunities. Out of these, 1150 students have already secured placements in either Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the placement process. However, this leaves 950 students who are yet to receive job offers.
Dheeraj Singh has analyzed the current placement trend and predicted that a significant number of students may not receive job offers. Specifically, Singh estimates that approximately 45.2 percent of registered students could remain unplaced based on the current Placement trend.
However, IIT Madras has denied Dheeraj Singh's claims. According to the institute, more clarity on the matter won't be achieved until the IIT Madras Placement Report 2024 is published in July 2024.
