Candidates have to fulfill some academic criteria and exams to get admission into the IIT Madras MTech program that include:
- Educational Qualification: The candidate should be a holder of Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture from institutions approved by AICTE or equivalent. Alternatively, a candidate with a Master's degree in related disciplines like Chemistry, Life Sciences, Mathematics, or Physics can also apply.

The process of admission to M.Tech courses at IIT Madras involves several key steps:
Step 1: Application Form
