Discipline-Specific Research Highlights

Physics

The Department of Physics is installing a LiDAR sensor (from Physics Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad) to study atmospheric particles and their impact on climate and air quality, the first such installation in the region and only the third in India. The department has a legacy of research in solar physics, biomolecules, liquid crystals, organic semiconductors, and particle physics collaborations with CERN.

Chemistry, Mathematics, Law & Others

Departments such as Chemistry and Mathematics do active research in spectroscopy, soil chemistry, enzyme catalysis, algebraic mathematics, and other areas. Law faculty contribute through policy research and community development initiatives. The Department of Biotechnology and Home Science conducts applied research in food, nutrition, textile management, and human development.

International Collaborations & Faculty Leadership Training

The American Chemical Society (ACS) and DDU GKP collaborated to organize a Faculty Leadership Summit in September 2024. About 51 faculty members (including international participants from Nepal) took part. Topics included leadership in science, grant writing, research ethics, and mentoring. This summit fosters global exchange and improves research capabilities of faculty across STEM departments.

PhD Research & Paperless Systems

Doctoral research has been conducted entirely online since late 2023, with students using an online portal to submit their progress reports and thesis drafts. The institution wants to guarantee examiner comments within two months and offer PhD degrees within six months after submission. To accommodate this change, the central library installed 25 computer terminals.

International Fellowships for Scholars

In order to facilitate research abroad, DDU provides the Maha Yogi Shri Guru Gorakshnath International Fellowship (2023–24) to a chosen group of PhD academics and UG/PG students. Fellowships provide travel, sustenance, and contingency funding, including up to ₹1 lakh in travel grants and monthly stipends for international visits.
