VSSUT Fines 100 Students to Enforce Campus Discipline

The Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla has issued a fine to 100 students, including nine females, for violating university regulations. The students have been issued a fine of between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 by the university. This has been undertaken to enhance its discipline and fix issues like weak attendance, breach of hostel norms, and indiscipline.

After receiving several complaints, the disciplinary committee of the university conducted an investigation. In their line of investigations, they discovered that the majority of the students were not following the rules correctly. Some were not attending classes daily, others were doing things one should not do, and others were creating a disturbance in hostile environments. On these grounds, the university resolved to penalize students as a warning and to deter them from acting badly in the future.

One of the administrators of the university clarified that it is extremely essential to maintain campus discipline to achieve a healthy academic atmosphere. He claimed that these actions are undertaken to make students follow rules and develop a good campus life.

However, not everyone agreed with this move. Some students were complaining that the fines were too high and caused financial problems, but others were defending the university, saying that only strict rules and punishment can drive discipline. Third-year B.Tech student, who did not want to share his name, said that if punishments are announced clearly, then students will comply with rules.

It is not the first instance where VSSUT has taken tough action. Previously, the university suspended and even expelled students for serious problems such as ragging in 2018 and 2019. The latest action justifies that VSSUT is still serious about having high standards when it comes to academics as well as student discipline.

The university has also warned that students who continue to disregard rules will be penalized harshly in the future, for example, suspension or expulsion. As VSSUT expands in size and facilities, it wants to make sure discipline is firm to support its vision of being a top technical education institution.
