The Telangana government has increased its overseas education scholarship programs. More students from certain communities will now receive financial help to study in universities abroad. This aims to provide broader access to global education opportunities.
A total of 1,900 students from Backward Classes (BC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will now get support. This number is higher than the previous 1,110 students who received scholarships. The increase allows more students from these groups to pursue studies overseas.
What the Scholarship Offers
Eligible students can receive up to ₹20 lakh in financial support. This money helps cover the main costs for studying in another country. The scholarship funds cover:
- Tuition fees: The cost of university courses at recognized international institutions.
- Visa charges: The fees required to obtain a student visa for the country of study.
- One-way economy-class airfare: The cost of a flight ticket for the student's travel to their international study destination.
Who Can Apply and Eligibility Rules
To qualify for these scholarships, students must meet specific conditions. Applicants need to have a confirmed admission letter from a recognized international university. This means they must have been accepted into an academic program abroad. Students also need to meet certain academic performance standards and financial requirements. These conditions are set by the Telangana government to ensure deserving students receive the aid.
Details of Expanded Scholarship Schemes
The Telangana government operates two main overseas education scholarship programs that have been expanded:
1. Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Overseas Education Scheme
This scheme helps students from Backward Classes (BC) and Economically Backward Classes (EBC) . Under the expanded plan, it will now support:
- 700 students from the general Backward Classes (BC) category.
- 500 students from the BC-C and BC-E sub-categories.
- 200 students from the Economically Backward Classes (EBC) category.
This expansion aims to support more students from these communities in pursuing international higher education.
2. Ambedkar Overseas Education Scheme
This scheme supports students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) . The number of SC students benefiting has increased from 210 to 500 . For ST students, a total of 200 will now receive financial assistance to study abroad.
Why These Scholarships Are Important
This expansion is part of Telangana’s continuous effort. The state government works to ensure students from underrepresented communities have access to global education opportunities. By providing financial help, the state removes money as a barrier. This allows more students to pursue studies abroad and gain international experience, contributing to their future success.
