Good news for thousands of medical graduates across India! The counselling process for NEET PG 2025 is set to begin tomorrow, October 17, 2025 . This process helps students get admission to postgraduate medical courses like MD, MS, and PG Diploma programs. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will manage the entire counselling.
The counselling was delayed for some time. This delay was because of a ongoing legal case in the Supreme Court about how fair and open the NEET PG 2025 exam was. Now, with the new start date, students can finally move forward.
What is NEET PG 2025?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Postgraduate), or NEET PG, is a very important exam for doctors who want to study further. It is the main entrance exam for all MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses in India. The NEET PG 2025 exam was held on August 3, 2025 . The results were announced on August 19, 2025 . After getting their results, candidates wait for the counselling process to choose their preferred colleges and courses.
Why Was Counselling Delayed?
The counselling schedule faced uncertainty because of a case in the Supreme Court of India. This court case challenged the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), which conducts the exam. The people who filed the case asked the NBEMS to release the answer keys and question papers for the NEET PG 2025 exam .
They argued that the current way of sharing exam details is not clear enough. This makes it difficult for students to check their answers and understand their scores properly. The Supreme Court hearing for this case was first planned for September 26 , but it has now been moved to October 28, 2025 .
What Happens During Counselling?
The NEET PG 2025 counselling will happen online. Here are the main steps:
- Registration: Candidates must register online on the MCC website. They will need to provide their personal details and exam information.
- Choice Filling: After registration, students can choose the colleges and courses they want to join. They should list their choices carefully, from most preferred to least preferred.
- Seat Allotment: Based on their NEET PG scores, choices, and availability of seats, students will be given a seat in a college.
- Reporting to College: If a student is happy with the seat they got, they must visit the assigned college to complete admission steps and pay fees.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) handles the counselling for 50% of the All India Quota seats, along with seats in Central Universities, Deemed Universities, and other institutions. State counselling bodies handle the remaining seats.

The news about counselling starting was also shared by Dr. Lakshay Mittal on X (earlier known as Twitter). He posted, “ NEET PG counselling is finally scheduled to start tomorrow. Candidates should complete registration and choice filling at the earliest to avoid missing deadlines.” This public announcement further confirmed the schedule for students.
