Mumbai University has strongly warned its students and teachers about a fake notice spreading online. This false message claimed that all upcoming university exams have been postponed. The university has clearly stated that this notice is untrue and that exams will start as planned on October 14 .

Fake News About Exam Delays

The false notice said that exams scheduled from October 14 to November 6, 2025 , would be delayed. It mentioned "technical difficulties" and "paper security concerns" as reasons for this fake postponement. The notice wrongly claimed that these exams would now take place after November 6 . This caused a lot of confusion among students who are preparing for their winter exams.

University Confirms: Exams Are On Schedule

To clear up the confusion, Mumbai University quickly issued an official statement. They used their official X account, previously known as Twitter, to confirm that the notice was "FAKE." The university's tweet said: "A fabricated circular is being circulated in the name of the University of Mumbai, falsely claiming that all exams have been postponed due to technical difficulties. The University of Mumbai confirms that this notice is FAKE." This direct message aimed to stop the spread of false information immediately.

Rely Only on Official Sources

The university has urged all students, faculty members, and colleges connected to Mumbai University to ignore unofficial messages. They stressed the importance of getting information only from official sources. This includes the main Mumbai University website and its verified social media pages. Doing this will ensure that everyone receives accurate and timely updates about exams and other important university matters. Relying on unverified messages can lead to missing crucial exam dates or other important announcements.

Why Fake Notices Cause Problems

Mumbai University has thousands of students enrolled in many undergraduate and postgraduate courses across its campuses in Mumbai and affiliated colleges. Spreading false information, like fake exam postponements, can cause serious stress and trouble for these students. They spend a lot of time preparing, and such fake news can make them unsure about their schedules. It can also lead to students missing exams if they believe the fake dates.

Not The First Time: Past Misinformation

This is not the first time students have faced misinformation about exams. In May 2025 , a similar fake notice from the University Grants Commission (UGC) falsely claimed that all exams were cancelled due to made-up border tensions between India and Pakistan. These past incidents show how important it is for students to be careful and always check facts from official university channels. It highlights the need for students to be smart about what they read online and to verify information before believing it or sharing it with others.

What Students Must Do

  • Always visit the official Mumbai University website for exam dates and notices.
  • Check the university's verified social media accounts (like X/Twitter) for urgent updates.
  • Do not trust messages or circulars shared on unofficial WhatsApp groups or other social media channels.
  • If you are unsure about any notice, contact your college administration or the university's official helpline for clarification.
  • Share only official information with your friends to prevent others from being misled.
