Mahindra University School of Law has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation (IIAM) . This partnership will establish a new facility called the Seeding Centre for Peace and Justice on the university campus. The main goal of this new centre is to improve how people get justice and to promote a culture of solving problems peacefully.
The agreement, known as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks an important step in making legal help more accessible. It aims to offer ways for individuals and groups to resolve disagreements without always needing to go to traditional courts. This collaboration combines Mahindra University's focus on modern education with IIAM's expertise in alternative methods of dispute resolution.
How the Centre Will Function
The Seeding Centre for Peace and Justice will carry out several key activities:
- It will host sessions for solving problems through arbitration and mediation . In arbitration , a neutral expert listens to both sides and then makes a decision that both parties must follow. In mediation , a neutral person helps the people involved talk to each other to find their own solution. These sessions can be set up as needed or as part of a planned programme.
- The centre will provide training courses. These courses will teach individuals how to become skilled mediators and arbitrators. The training will follow a schedule approved by IIAM .
- It will help develop a group of trained mediators and arbitrators. This group will include students, university teachers, and professional experts. This means students will get hands-on experience and develop important skills for their future careers.
The new centre at Mahindra University will also work as a partner in IIAM’s G2J project . G2J stands for "Going to Justice." Furthermore, it will be linked to IIAM’s online platform, ‘Peacegate’ . This platform allows people to resolve disputes using online tools. Through this connection, students, faculty members, university alumni, and people from the local community will be able to access real-time services. These services include dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration, and tools for managing cases. This will help students connect their legal studies with practical work.
Benefits for Students and the Community
Dr. Yajulu Medury , the Vice Chancellor of Mahindra University , highlighted the advantages of this partnership. He stated that the university focuses on bringing different subjects together in education and on learning through practical experience. This collaboration will help students exchange knowledge and broaden their views. It will also prepare them to be ready for jobs in the legal field.
Dr. Medury also explained that this effort does more than just prepare students professionally. It also helps the community by making justice easier to get for more people. By offering peaceful and quicker ways to solve disagreements, the centre aims to serve a wider section of society.
Introducing the Mahindra International Dispute Resolution Centre
To further support these goals, Mahindra University will also have another important facility on its campus. This is the Mahindra International Dispute Resolution Centre (MIDRC) . This centre will operate as a complete facility for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services.
The MIDRC will serve as a place for students and young professionals to gain practical training. They will get to manage real cases, which is a valuable experience for their careers. This centre will offer an important resource to the community, providing an alternative to traditional court systems for resolving legal issues. Both centres aim to create a strong foundation for future legal professionals and offer practical solutions for dispute resolution in India.
