The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi ( IIT Delhi ) has opened admissions for the third batch of its special Executive Programme in Robotics. This five-month course is designed for professionals who want to learn about robots, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and smart machines. It aims to prepare students for new job roles in industries that are quickly changing with technology.

What the Program Teaches

This program combines engineering knowledge about robots with skills in AI , sensing, and building prototypes. Students will learn how to make robots ready for industry work. Experts from India and the USA helped create the course, ensuring it teaches practical skills needed for today's jobs.

Students will gain a mix of management understanding and strong technical skills to work well in the fast-growing world of robotics. They will learn to:

  • Develop and use robot programs.
  • Design and control robot systems and networks.
  • Build robot devices from the ground up, covering both mechanical and electronic parts.
  • Understand how robots 'see' using visual sensors for real-world tasks.

The course has six main sections and includes hands-on training:

  • Robotics and Automation
  • Sensing and Perception (how robots understand their surroundings)
  • Actuators and Motion (how robots move)
  • Modelling (designing robot systems)
  • AI and Machine Learning (making robots smart)
  • Embedded Control and Mechatronics (combining mechanics and electronics)
  • Applications and Future Directions (where robots are used and what's next)

Students also get tutorials in important areas like:

  • CAD design (Computer-Aided Design)
  • 3D printing (making physical objects from digital designs)
  • Arduino programming (coding small computers for robots)
  • AI/ML for robotics
  • DIY robotics (Do-It-Yourself robot building)
  • ROS training (Robot Operating System)

Each student will complete a major practical project where they build their own robot. This project involves structured research and guided work.

How to Join and What to Expect

IIT Delhi will teach the program through live, online classes. These 'Direct-to-Device' (D2D) sessions include lectures, tutorials, and practical work. All students will also get a chance to visit the IIT Delhi campus for one day. This visit allows them to experience the institute's learning and and research environment directly.

To apply, you must be a graduate with at least 50% marks . After successfully completing the program, participants will receive an official Certificate of Successful Completion from IIT Delhi.

Robots in India and Around the World

The use of robots is growing rapidly worldwide. A report by ABI Research suggests that nearly 13 million robots could be working globally by 2030 . The robot industry is expected to grow by 14% each year and reach a value of US$111 billion by 2030 . Humanoid robots (robots that look like humans) are the fastest-growing type.

India is also seeing more robots being used. In 2024 , 9,100 new robots were installed in India, which is a 7% increase . The car manufacturing sector uses the most robots in India, accounting for 45% of the total. India now ranks 6th globally in terms of yearly robot installations, moving up one place. This growth shows a strong need for people skilled in robotics and automation as factories become more modern.

Robotics Fact Detail
Global Robots (by 2030)Nearly 13 million
Global Industry Growth 14% annually
Global Market Size (by 2030) US$111 billion
India Robot Installations (2024) 9,100 units (up 7%)

India's Global Rank 6th (for annual installations)

IIT Delhi's Vision for Robotics

Professor Arnab Chanda, who coordinates this program at IIT Delhi, explained the importance of this field. He said, "Robotics now mixes with AI, sensing, and advanced manufacturing. Industries need engineers who can design, program, and properly use smart robot systems." He added that this program from IIT Delhi offers strong technical skills and practical insights to help professionals drive new ideas in key industries, both in India and worldwide.
