During IIM Mumbai Admissions 2025, a staggering rise of 4,034% in the CAT application was witnessed, showing IIM Mumbai's position among other IIMs in India.
The admission cycle was met with startling interest at IIM Mumbai, with applications growing from 13,534 in 2024 to 5.6 lakh (559,887)
As per the latest cycle, the General MBA program was the most sought-after course with 2.69 lakh applications. The MBA in Sustainable Management also witnessed high interest among more than 2.1 lakh applicants, while 77,000 reported applications for the Operations and Supply Chain (OSC) Management program.

Women accounted for nearly one-third of the total applicants even more than the previous year, with women making up almost a third of the total applicants, suggesting a continued interest in management education among female candidates.
Impact: IIM Brand Recognition
Most IIM applications were free this year as they were part of the CAT fee. This enabled students to apply to multiple IIMs without incurring an extra cost, resulting in a spike in applications.
In 2024, however, IIM Mumbai was not listed on the official IIM admission portal, which meant that students needed to submit separate IIM applications. But its addition to the centralized system this year simplified the application process, and led to a big jump in applicants.
The director of IIM Mumbai, Professor Manoj Tiwari, attributed this growth to the institute’s rebranding and inclusion in the official IIM admission portal. He said these changes aided in attracting more students.
The institute was formerly known as the National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering (NITIE) until it was given the name IIM Mumbai in August 2023. This helped in strengthening the reputation and establishment of the Institute among India’s top management institutes.

The overall number of job offers rose by more than 10% year-on-year, indicated a strong recruiter interest.
