GATE 2026: Late Registration Extended to Oct 13; Check Status & Dates

IIT Guwahati has announced an extended registration deadline for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. Applicants can now submit their forms until October 13 , 2025, by paying an additional late fee. • All other candidates must pay a late fee of INR 2500 .

Understanding Application Status and Scrutiny

Upon submission, candidates must monitor their application status through their GOAPS login. Initially, the status will show as "Application form under scrutiny." This indicates that the submitted form is being reviewed and verified by the authorities. The status will be updated to reflect any issues found during this process.

Common Application Status Indicators:

• Under scrutiny: The application is currently under review; document and information verification is in progress.
• Application accepted: The application has been thoroughly reviewed and accepted. No further action is required from the candidate.
• Application submitted: The application form has been submitted, but the required payment has not yet been successfully processed.
• Your application is submitted and payment received successfully: Both the application form and the payment have been received. The form will now proceed to the scrutiny phase.
• Under scrutiny: defect rectification done: The application initially had defects, which the candidate has successfully corrected. The form is now undergoing a second review.
• Your application is defective or incomplete: The application contains unaddressed defects or missing information. Candidates must follow specific instructions to make the necessary corrections.

Addressing Application Defects

If an application is flagged as defective or incomplete, candidates receive an email notification on their registered ID. Accessing the GOAPS portal allows applicants to view specific instructions for rectification. All required changes must be completed and resubmitted before the rectification deadline. There is no additional charge for correcting existing defects.

Application Approval Timeframe

The GATE authorities typically take approximately 3 to 4 days to process and approve an application form or to issue a defect notification. Timely checking of the portal is advised to avoid missing any updates.

GATE 2026 Correction Window and Examination Schedule

After the final registration period closes, a correction window will be activated for applicants to make minor edits to their submitted forms. This correction facility will be available until November 6 , 2025. Detailed, branch-wise examination schedules will be published by IIT Guwahati several days prior to the first exam date.
