Himanshu Thapliyal, NITK Surathkal, 2023 MTech Nanotechnology successfully got an All India Rank (AIR) 1 in the UPSC Engineering Services Examination. However, his route to success was anything but straightforward.
He was born in Uttarakhand and raised in Lucknow. The start to his academic path was not very great, where he secured a JEE rank of 5,83,000, which was way too less for someone who wanted to get into one of the top engineering institutes. Later, he completed his BTech Electronics and Communication from NPSEI, Pithoragarh, and graduated with a lot of effort and hard work as a result.
He studied with dedication and cleared the GATE exam; it was a new beginning for him. This accomplishment landed him an admission to MTech Nanotechnology in NITK Surathkal (2021-2023 batch). NITK Surathkal was a turning point in his life.
It took him some time to find his true calling, which is why NITK Surathkal was the right place, as he got a lot of exposure and the right environment. He formed lasting friendships and learned to see his path ahead. He attributes the success in shaping his journey, confidence in taking on challenges, and finally achieving AIR 1 in UPSC Engineering Services Examination by the program at the institute.
Himanshu Thapliyal had not set out to simply top a rank. For him, AIR 1 was just the first step to a larger destination — joining Indian Telecom Services. He had long dreamed of this and worked tirelessly to make it a reality.
Now, this milestone makes him feel closer to his goal. His journey does not end here, though. He wants to know how the system works, identify aspects in which he can make an impact, and then contribute to society in the best possible way. He concentrates on how to use what he knows and can do to effect positive change.
He did not achieve this overnight; he worked hard, never gave up, and stayed dedicated. He was hit with a lot of challenges, but rather than taking them as setbacks, he took them as opportunities to learn and grow. His story shows that with dedication, anyone can pursue and achieve their dreams.
Himanshu wishes to inspire and motivate other students with his journey. He wants aspirants to have faith in themselves, shoot for the stars and pledge allegiance to their vision even if the road appears arduous. He proves that with the right mental approach, one can achieve greatness.
