75 CM Shri Schools Set to Launch in Delhi: DBSE to Be Phased Out, CBSE to Take Over

In a significant development for Delhi’s public education sector, the government has identified schools for upgradation into 75 newly proposed CM Shri Schools, which are expected to become operational in the coming weeks. Education Minister Ashish Sood announced the provisional shortlisting and confirmed that efforts are in full swing to ensure these institutions are ready to begin functioning shortly.

Transition from DBSE to CBSE Begins

Along with the launch of CM Shri Schools, a key structural change is underway: the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) will be gradually discontinued. Schools that were previously affiliated with DBSE will now shift to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This change aligns with broader national education frameworks and aims to provide students with a standardized curriculum and assessment system across India.

Sustainable and High-Tech Learning Spaces

The CM Shri Schools are envisioned as eco-friendly, technologically advanced campuses, designed to set a new benchmark in public education. According to an official from the education department, these schools will adopt zero-waste policies and run on solar energy. Each campus will be equipped with AI-integrated libraries, AR/VR-enabled classrooms, smartboards, and biometric attendance systems to foster a modern learning environment.

Focus on Innovation: Robotics and Smart Labs

To promote hands-on learning and future-ready skills, each school will feature a dedicated robotics lab. The initiative is part of a broader government strategy to integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education within the public school system and prepare students for emerging tech-driven careers.

₹100 Crore Allocated in Budget 2024–25

As outlined in Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s Budget 2024–25 speech, the government has earmarked ₹100 crore for the rollout of the CM Shri Schools. Inspired by the PM Shri School model at the national level, the state version will also follow the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and be aligned with the National Curriculum Framework 2023.

Teacher and Leadership Recruitment Drive Underway

The Directorate of Education has initiated a special recruitment process to staff the CM Shri Schools. A circular issued on June 5 invited applications from Primary (PRT), Trained Graduate (TGT), and Postgraduate Teachers (PGT) with at least five years left before retirement. Another notification dated June 10 opened the application process for principals and vice-principals, also requiring the same retirement eligibility condition, to fill key leadership roles.
