About the Internship
As a student trainee/intern for the AppSec engineer/security specialist role, you will work at the intersection of full stack development, UI/UX design, and DevOps with the ultimate goal of building a website for a study abroad advisory business while catering to Gen Z as a target audience. Your primary role is to safeguard software systems from vulnerabilities and threats throughout the development lifecycle. You will work within the technology team and will report to the management team of the firm.Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Security assessment & testing: Perform static and dynamic application security testing (SAST/DAST). Conduct manual code reviews and penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities. Use tools like Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, Fortify, or Veracode to automate assessments.
2 Secure architecture & design: Collaborate with development teams to design secure software architectures. Provide threat modeling and risk analysis during the design phase. Recommend security controls and best practices tailored to business needs.
3. Remediation & guidance: Work closely with developers to remediate vulnerabilities and improve secure coding practices. Develop and maintain secure coding standards and security checklists. Train teams on application security principles and secure development lifecycle (SDLC).
4. Security tools & automation: Integrate security tools into CI/CD pipelines for continuous monitoring. Develop custom scripts or plugins to enhance security automation. Monitor and maintain security dashboards and metrics.
5. Compliance & governance: Ensure applications meet regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR). Document findings, remediation steps, and compliance reports. Participate in security audits and incident response planning.
6. Cloud & API security: Assess and secure cloud-native applications and microservices. Evaluate API security using standards like OWASP API Top 10. Implement identity and access management (IAM) and data protection strategies.
