The MHT CET Eligibility Criteria is released on the official website @cetcell.maharashtra.org. The eligibility criteria of MH CET include the requirements relating to domicile, age, qualification, qualifying examination, and the marks that have been scored.

All aspirants must fulfill the MH CET Eligibility Criteria in every aspect for admission in the participating institutes of the state-level engineering entrance examination. Prior to filling out the MH CET Application form, the candidates should check if they have fulfilled the MH CET Eligibility Criteria.

Candidates found ineligible at any stage of the MH CET Application Procedure will be disqualified, even if they qualify the examination. As per DTE Maharashtra, 85% of the seats in private unaided engineering institutes in Maharashtra shall be filled through MH CET, and 15% seats shall be filled/ reserved for the All India Quota, which would be based on MH CET.

MHT CET Eligibility- General Criteria

The general and basic eligibility criteria for the MHT CET exam is given below. Candidates must ensure that they fulfill this eligibility criteria to avoid rejection during the admission process.

  • Nationality: Indian nationality is required for the aspirants.
  • Age limitations:The MHT-CET has no maximum age requirement.
  • Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 12th grade or an equivalent test from a recognized board or university with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as their required courses.
  • The minimum aggregate score for general category applicants in the 12th-grade test was 50%; the minimal score for those in the SC, ST, and OBC categories was 45%.
  • According to DTE Maharashtra, MHT CET would be used to fill 15% of the seats in All India Quota and 85% of the seats in private, unaided engineering colleges in Maharashtra.

For Maharashtra State Candidates (All India Quota/State-Based)

Candidates must have passed class 12/appearing in class 12 in 2024/2025

Candidate should have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one subject among Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/Business Studies in class 12

Candidate must obtain at least 45% marks in class 12. Candidates belonging to the backward class, Economically Weaker Section, and Persons with Disability category should obtain at least 40 % marks in class 12

Non-Maharashtra Candidates

Candidates who are not from Maharashtra are also eligible to appear in MHT CET. Non-Maharashtra candidates also have the option of applying for BTech admission through JEE Main.

MHT CET reservation policies do not apply to candidates not belonging to Maharashtra.

OCI/PIO/NRI Candidates

OCI/PIO and NRI candidates are exempted from appearing in MHT CET. Such candidates can apply for admission based on class 12/equivalent exams. Separate counselling for OCI/PIO/NRI candidates is held separately after the admission process of MHT CET.

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for Maharashtra State Candidatures

The table below represents the eligibility criteria for the various categories of the candidate.

Candidates passing SSC/Diploma in Engineering/HSC/Bachelor of Science

Place of passing the exam should fall within the jurisdiction of the university area

Type B

Candidate not falling in Type A but his/her mother or father are domiciles belonging to Maharashtra

Place of domicile certificate issuing authority should fall within the jurisdiction of the university area

Type C

Candidates who do not fall in Type A or Type B/ but their mother or father is an Indian Government employee /Either of parents should be posted and report to duty in Maharashtra prior to deadline MHT CET CAP Application form submission

The parents posting area should fall within the jurisdiction of the university area.

Type D

Candidates who do not fall in either of these categories, but either of their parents are employees of or retire from the Maharashtra Government or related undertaking

Place of posting/settlement should fall within the jurisdiction of the University Area.

Type E

Candidates passing SSC/HSC from a recognized institution situated in a Maharashtra/Karnataka border with mother tongue being Marathi

Candidates would be considered under outside Home University or for outside Maharashtra State Seats

MHT CET Eligibility Criteria for Minority Candidature

Candidates from the State of Maharashtra who are members of a certain language or religious minority community, as announced by the government, come under this category. Check the eligibility criteria for such candidates listed below.

  • If a candidate lives inside the disputed line between Maharashtra and Karnataka, they are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam from a school in the disputed border area and have the necessary MHT CET qualifying marks.
  • Applicants will need to provide a domicile certificate from the headmaster or principal of the college or school.
  • Candidates like this should be Marathi native speakers. Candidates must also show a certificate attesting to their passage of the 12th standard exam, issued by the principal or headmaster of the college.
  • The applicant must have taken a course in Marathi in the 10+2 or a comparable exam.

MHT CET 2025 Eligibility Criteria for Direct Admission

  • NRI/OCI/PIO children or the children of Foreign National or Indian workers in the Gulf countries are exempted from appearing for MHT CET 2025. However, candidates belonging to Maharashtra State Candidature or Minority Candidature have to appear in MHT CET 2025 for admission in BE/BTech.
  • All India candidates may or may not appear for the exam because JEE Main scores shall be preferred over MHT CET 2025 scores for admission to BE/BTech.
  • Candidates belonging to Maharashtra State Candidature, Minority Candidature and All India Candidature have to appear in MHT CET 2025 for admission to BPharm/PharmD.

Which students are eligible for MHT CET?

Candidates should have passed a 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board/university with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply and have minimum MHT CET passing marks of at least 45% in the general category, and 40% in the reserved category.

Can only Maharashtra students apply for MHT CET?

The exam is open to all Indian nationals, including candidates from other states. However, please note that reservation policies are applicable only for candidates belonging to Maharashtra.

What are PCM eligibility marks?

Most of the UGC recognized and deemed universities and recognized colleges require minimum 65% aggregate marks ( with minimum 60% marks in PCM) in higher secondary or equivalent from a recognized school/board to be eligible to apply for admission.

What score must you receive in the MHT CET 2025 qualifying test to qualify?

Candidates must have received at least 45% of the possible points in their 10+2 exam or an equivalent. Candidates from the reserved group must receive a minimum of 40%.

What is 50:50 weightage criteria in MHT CET for BTech admission?

Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant has announced that 50:50 weightage will be given to CET score and Class 12th marks for admission to undergraduate professional courses in Maharashtra state from the academic session 2023-24. As per this criteria, marks of class 12 and MHT CET will be considered for preparing the merit list in 50:50 ratio. Only those candidates who will have their names in the merit list will be considered for admission.

What will be the eligibility criteria for NRI candidates in MHT CET 2025?

NRI candidates must have passed HSC or equivalent exam with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Rest of the conditions will be as per the qualifying exams eligibility.

In case a student got a compartment in class 12, can I apply for MHT CET 2025?

Yes, such students can apply for MHT CET 2025 but their admission will be finalised only if they clear the compartment in that subject.
