Understanding Freeze vs Float Options

Freeze Option: When a candidate chooses to "freeze", this means they intend to accept the seat and no longer wish to be considered for any subsequent rounds of seat allocation. For the case of 'freeze' of the allocated seat, the candidate will NOT be eligible for any next stages in the counselling process for the purpose of upgrading the seat.

When to Choose Freeze:

• You are happy with the college and the course you have been allocated
• You do not want to risk losing this seat in any subsequent rounds
• The seat you have been allocated is one of your preferences

Float Option: When a candidate chooses to "float", they will accept their allocated seat, but will remain eligible for further rounds of counselling. Candidates that choose the "float" option will participate in upgrading, that is, they can be allocated a seat in a higher preference, if there is one, from their preferences.

When to Choose Float:

• You want to try for a better college, or preferred course
• What you have been allocated is fine, but it still is not your ideal choice
• You are willing to participate in future rounds of counselling

UPTAC Round 2 Eligibility

The following candidates can participate in UPTAC Round 2:
1. New Candidates
Candidates who registered and paid the registration fee, but have not filled any options locationally in phase 1.
2. Freeze Candidates
Candidates will not be allowed to fill in options or modify their options. The seat previously allocated to them (the institute, course and discipline) remains unchanged, and upgrading to their allocated category will be as per the rules.
3. Float Candidates
Candidates will allow their previous allocated seat (and course) to stay as per the previous seat allocation. Will however be able to modify their choices/options: and be deemed eligible for seat upgrade.
4. Non-Allotted Candidates
Candidates who registered and paid the registration fees and filled in options, but who have a seat allocation of nil in the previous phase. Will have the ability to modify options.

Important Instructions for Non-Allotted Candidates

If you didn't receive a seat in Round 1:

• No fees will be required at this point.
• You can make modifications to your choices/options for round 2 from 2nd to 3rd August 2025, and can make modifications, if desired
• Your previously made choices/options are still valid unless you modify.
• You remain eligible for all subsequent rounds.
