TNEA Marks v/s Ranks
The TNEA counselling application window opened on 8th May 2025. The window to apply for counselling is open till 6th June 2025. During this time period students will have to fill out the application forms and properly upload the required certificates for TNEA counselling. The rank list for TNEA is expected to be released on 27th June 2025. The rank list helps determine which college students are allotted. This article highlights how many marks determine a student’s rank in the TNEA counselling. The counselling for TNEA is expected to begin in July 2025.
TNEA Important Dates
Provided below is an overview of the important dates for TNEA 2025. Knowing the important dates is very helpful for students to refer to later on. The important dates are as follows:
TNEA Rank List
The rank list for the TNEA counselling round will be published on 27th June 2025. The list will be published on the official Directorate of Technical Education website at tneaonline.org.
Students will be allotted their colleges based on their standing on the rank list. The TNEA rank list consists of the overall rank and community rank.
In cases of more than one student having the same marks in the rank list, the merit amongst these students will be determined according to these factors in order of priority:
- Percentage of score in Maths.
- Percentage of score in Physics.
- Percentage of score in an optional subject.
- Percentage of total marks scored in class 12th.
- Student’s date of birth. Older students will be given preference.
- The random TNEA number assigned. Higher numbers will be given preference.

TNEA Marks v/s Ranks
The ranks of students for the TNEA counselling round will be based on their overall performance on their class 12th qualifying examinations. The overall marks will be scaled to a total of 200 marks in prescribed subjects. These subjects include Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The weightage of each subject is as follows:

TNEA Counselling
The TNEA counselling round is expected to begin July 2025 for the general category. The counselling is conducted at a state level in the online mode. The TNEA counselling admission process generally goes in the following steps:
- Students can register for TNEA counselling at the official website at tneaonline.org
- Students will then have to fill out the required application and upload the required certificate.
- Random TNEA numbers will then be allotted to students.
- The TFC will then verify the certificate uploaded.
- After the verification of certificates, the rank list for the TNEA counselling round is published.
- Right after the rank list is published, students may raise their grievances.
- The TNEA counselling then begins. This is conducted in the online mode which includes seat filling, seat allotment, seat confirmation and reporting to the selected/ allotted college.
