The Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (SVMCM) is a government initiative in West Bengal. It is intended to assist students who are performing well in school but come from low-income families. The aim is to make sure financial problems don’t stop them from continuing education.
SVMCM Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 2025
To get the scholarship, you need to meet these conditions:
- You must be a permanent resident of West Bengal and studying in a recognized school or college in West Bengal.
- Your family’s yearly income must be ₹2,50,000 or less.
- You must meet minimum marks:
• For Higher Secondary (Class 11-12) and Undergraduate, at least 60% on the most recent exam.
• For Postgraduate general courses, usually 53% needed. For technical / engineering PG courses, 55% marks may be required. - If you are female and a Kanyashree (K2/K3 person), some lower marks requirement apply for PG in Arts/Science/Commerce.
- You must be studying in regular mode (not distance / part-time) class.
- You must not be getting another government scholarship at the same time for the same educational level.
SVMCM Scholarship Amount 2025
Depending on what you study, the amount given per month changes. Here are some examples:
- For Higher Secondary students: about ₹1,000/month
- Undergraduate Arts/Commerce: ₹1,000 per month. Science and professional courses: ₹1,500 or more.
- Postgraduate general courses: ~₹2,000/month, Science/Technical PG ~₹2,500/month or sometimes more.
- For professional / technical fields (engineering / medical etc.), the amount is higher, since fees are higher.
Total scholarship value can go between ₹12,000 to ₹96,000/year depending on course and level.
How to Apply for SVMCM Scholarship Online
Here’s what you do:
- Go to the official SVMCM portal (svmcm.wbhed.gov.in) and register as a fresh applicant or renewal applicant.
- Fill in personal and academic details, upload required documents such as mark sheets, income certificate, bank account proof, domicile proof, etc.
- There will be OTP verification via mobile, then you get Applicant ID, password, etc.
- After submission, you can check status via login.
SVMCM Scholarship Renewal Process
For renewal, you must have passed in the first attempt, maintain required marks, and satisfy the income criteria again.
Important Instructions for Applicants
- Keep your income proof, mark sheets ready in the correct format. Wrong documents lead to rejection.
- Apply on time. Deadlines are strict.
- Double check you are not getting another scholarship of same level.
