How to Register for JoSAA Counselling

Provided below is a simple step-by-step process for students to follow on how they can register for the JoSAA counselling process. Following these steps will ensure students know what to expect and how to go about registering for the JoSAA counselling process. The steps are as follows: 

  1. Visit the official JoSAA website at josaa.nic.in.
  2. Select the new candidate registration option and enter the required credentials. These include a student’s JEE Main application number, name, mother’s name and date of birth. 
  3. An OTP will be sent to the registered phone number or email. It is important for students to verify themselves accordingly. 
  4. Students will then be given an option to create a password for the JoSAA website. 
  5. After the previous steps have been completed, students can go back to the official JoSAA website. 
  6. Students will then be required to enter their JEE Main application number along with their newly created password. Students will also have to verify their identities again when an OTP is sent to their registered phone numbers. 
  7. After all these steps have been completed, students would have officially registered for the JoSAA counselling process. They can move on to the choice filling process. 

JoSAA Counselling Process Explained 

Knowing how the process of JoSAA counselling goes can be very beneficial for students. Provided below is a general overview of the JoSAA counselling process for students to refer to. The steps are as follows: 

  1. Registration: This step includes students to sign up for the counselling process. Students must ensure that all the details they fill in the application at the time of registration are updated and accurate. 
  2. Choice-Filling: In this step, students will be required to pick and fill for their college of choice for the JoSAA counselling process. Students must fill in their choices of colleges and branches in order of preference. Before registration closes, students will have the option to re-arrange their choices. 
  3. Choice Locking: Once choices are confirmed, students will be required to lock them. No changes will be allowed to be made. 
  4. Allocation of Seats: This is the process where students will be able to get into the colleges of their choice. Students are allotted colleges on the basis of their rank, preference of course, college and overall availability of seats. If a student is happy with their allocation, they can freeze their choice. If not, they can take part in future rounds of seat allotment. 
  5. Payment of Fee: If a student sticks with an allotted seat, they will be required to pay a fee of acceptance. Students who do not pay their acceptance fee will have their seat cancelled. 
  6. Document Verification: Once all previous formalities have been completed, students will be required to verify all their important documents. Doing so is necessary for colleges to grant final admission. In most cases, document verification is done in the online mode. 
  7. Reporting at College: After all formalities have been completed, a student must report to their allotted college to wrap up any remaining formalities or payments.
