The JEE Main exam is one of the most competitive and difficult examinations held in India each year. The exam is conducted twice each year, with it taking place in January and April. Achieving a 100 percentile on the exam can seem quite intimidating, especially if a student is repeating. However, being a repeater has several advantages that students taking the exam again must use to their complete benefit. This article highlights some tips and tricks repeating students can follow to achieve a 100 percentile on the JEE Main examination.

Is it Normal to Take the JEE Main Exam Again?

Before getting into how to achieve 100 percentile, it is important for students to know that it is completely normal to take the JEE Main examination again. The examination is considered to be a fairly difficult paper for students to crack. More than just being a difficult paper to score high on in of itself, lakhs of students take the exam as well hoping to give the JEE Advanced exam and get into some of the top IITs in India. Giving the exam can be a very difficult process due to the sheer competition as well as the exam itself.

The exam allows students to take the exam a total of six times in case students are unable to crack the paper on their first few attempts. It is very important that students do not view themselves in a negative light and focus on rethinking their strategies for the exam instead of feeling awful that their attempt did not work out. Having a negative self-image as a repeater can in fact cause more harm than good to students and hinder their overall confidence as well as performance on the JEE Main exam.

JEE Main 100 Percentile Scoring Guide

To achieve a 100 percentile on the JEE Main exam, students will need to be thoroughly prepared. Achieving a 100 percentile on the exam is no easy task and requires a significant amount of effort. Provided below are some tips for students retaking the JEE Main exam which they can follow to thoroughly improve their score from their last attempt:

Use Your Experience to Your Advantage

Unlike students who are taking the JEE Main exam for the first time, retakers have the advantage of knowing key details about the syllabus, marking scheme and various topics. It is crucial students use this to their advantage and thoroughly begin their preparation for the exam. Students can brush up on topics they are familiar with or even the exam pattern for the JEE Main examination.

Time Management

Time management is a crucial aspect during preparation and giving the JEE Main exam. During the preparation process for the JEE Main exam, students should properly divide their time on each section/ topic depending on their understanding of the topic, overall difficulty and syllabus. This will be easier for students giving the exam again who are more familiar with the syllabus. When giving the exam, students will be able to know how much time they must allocate to each part of the JEE Main exam.

Having a structured plan or timetable for what sections and topics of the JEE Main exam to study and when will be very useful in not only helping students mapping their preparation plan till the exam. Creating a timetable can help enforce better time management habits that can enforce a student’s discipline.

Mock Tests

Mocks are key in students being able to analyze their preparation for any exam, especially for an exam as difficult as the JEE Main paper. Mocks help students to develop speed as well as accuracy when preparing for the paper. They help students build up their efficiency when answering questions while being precise with each answer. These traits are essential as they help in covering more ground when attempting the JEE Main exam. Mock tests also enable students to develop confidence when appearing for the JEE Main exam as well.

Strengths and Weaknesses

When preparing for the JEE Main exam, especially with the intention to score a 100% percentile, identifying strengths and weaknesses plays a very important role. Knowing strengths can help students be more confident and know which topics require less time and energy in contrast to others.

On the other hand, a student who knows their weaknesses will be able to know which topics or sections of the JEE Main exam they should dedicate more of their focus towards. This in turn, will allow students to cover all their bases and be significantly well-prepared for the JEE Main examination.

Seek Guidance

If students find themselves stuck when preparing for the exam again, it is very helpful if they reach out for guidance. This could be through their peers or tutors through the coaching institutes they are going to. Students who are struggling may even reach out to their high school teachers to guide them through preparing for the exam. If in-person interactions are not possible due to whichever reasons, there are plenty of online forums which can offer students guidance in their preparation. Guidance could not just be for the studying aspect of the exam, but also the mental and emotional toll the exam may take on students, especially if they feel more stressed due to taking the exam again.

Keep a Calm Mind

Students looking to take the JEE Main exam, must take good care of themselves, especially if they are retaking the exam and aiming for 100%. Students must eat a balanced diet, stay hydrated and get enough sleep. This is as crucial as the actual studying aspect for students to avoid feeling worse when giving the exam.

To avoid burnout, it is highly recommended for students to keep themselves engaged with their hobbies, keep in touch with friends, take studying breaks and practice meditation. All of these can seem counterproductive to some but actually allow students to stay in a better mental space when preparing for the exam which is crucial for their overall well-being which plays a role in their performance on the JEE Main exam.
