Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has maintained its standing as one of the top universities in India in a wide range of academic fields in QS World University Rankings 2024 by Subject. An especially noteworthy accomplishment is that it made its debut on the prestigious list of the best universities for Data Science & AI, coming in at number two in India and 36th globally.
About IIT Kanpur Ranking
IIT Kanpur (IITK) is one of the most sought-after universities in India. It is one of the esteemed IITs, along with IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay. The first IIT generation to be founded in India was IIT Kanpur. According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, IIT Kanpur is ranked 278th. In the Engineering category, the institute was ranked #4 in India by NIRF for the year 2023. It has continuously ranked in the top 5 according to NIRF. NIRF 2023 has also ranked IIT Kanpur in the management category, placing it at 23rd position. Outlook ICARE and India Today have ranked IIT Kanpur as one of the top universities in the country, placing it at #4 and #6, respectively. IIT Kanpur has achieved recognition for its potential from other ranking agencies like Jagran Josh and The Week, as evidenced by its placement at number 4 in each of their rankings.
Aside from this, IIT Kanpur has held onto its 5th place ranking in India for Engineering and Technology, with a global QS rank of 93 in 2024. It increased from 96 to 84 in Computer Science, placing it 3rd nationally; however, it stays at 96 in Electrical Engineering, placing it 5th in India.
The math score increased significantly from 122 to 106, earning the institute's ranking as India's second-best. It moved up to 215 in Natural Sciences, holding onto its fifth-place ranking in the country. The institute rose from 121 to 101 in Mechanical Engineering, staying sixth in India, and from the 101-150 band to the 51-100 band in Civil Engineering.
