IIT Bombay's Mechanical Engineering Department has shown rather good placement performance. There were 154 B.Tech applicants in 2024, of which 140 were placed, therefore achieving a 90.90% placement rate.
There were 40 students in the Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) program, out of which 39 were placed, with a 97.5% placement rate. With all 41 candidates placed, the M.Tech program shone; the MS by Research (Exit Degree) had one participant who did not land a job.
With just 9 out of 24 placed, Ph.D. applicants had difficulties and had a rate of 37.50%. From 260 candidates overall across all programs, 229 were placed, hence strengthening IIT Bombay's reputation for turning out highly sought-after mechanical engineers with an overall placement rate of 88.07%.

IIT Bombay Mechanical Placement Trends
Even with significant variations, IIT Bombay's Mechanical Engineering placements over the past four years show a strong and encouraging trend. This direction emphasizes the great demand in this industry for qualified graduates. An amazing 260 applicants took part in the placement process in 2024; 229 of them were hired, therefore producing a placement rate of 88.07%. This is a little better than 2023, when out of 220 applicants, 191 were hired with an 86.81% rate.
Examining past year data helps one to see the more noticeable upward movement. In 2022, the placement rate increased to 90.45%, with 180 out of 199 students being placed. This was a significant improvement from 2021, when just 151 of 198 candidates were placed, a rate of 76.26%.

The IIT Bombay internship placement for 2024 concluded with 217 candidates placed in the Mechanical Engineering department. This substantial rise has shown the growing demand for the IIT Bombay Mechanical program.
Looking into the previous IIT Bombay placement statistics, the number of placed candidates stood at 130 in 2021. This number improved in 2022, reaching 155. The trend continued to grow, and IIT Bombay placed 171 candidates for the Mechanical Engineering internships in 2023.
