Bachche Bole Moriya 2025: Children Leading the Way to 8 Years of Eco-Friendly Ganesh Chaturthi

Children turned tradition into a powerful call for sustainability at the 8th edition ofBachche Bole Moriya, at New Era Senior Secondary School, and Anand Vidya Vihar School, organised by Chhatra Sansad India in association with the Vadodara Police. Inspiring entire cities to embrace sustainability while celebrating faith, what started in 2018 as a modest initiative to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi responsibly has now grown into one of India’s most recognised eco-conscious festive movements.

This year, students crafted and distributed over 250 eco-friendly Ganesh idols, which were gifted to Ganesh pandals across Vadodara and to every police station in the city. As a symbolic gesture, students also pay visits to police stations and perform Aartis with officers, showcasing the ideology behind this campaign of closing the gap between citizens and the police in trust, relationship, and shared beliefs. Making the campaign more effective, eco-friendly Ganpati pandals were given Eco-Champion Awards in 50 outstanding categories that presented an approach of devotion with responsibility.

Since its launch in 2018, Bachche Bole Moriya has reshaped the way Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across urban India. Almost 80% of the households in cities like Vadodara, Surat, Ahmedabad, Anand, Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur have been encouraged to use eco-friendly idols through this campaign. Over the years, more than 50,000 students from various schools have been mobilised to craft and promote sustainable practices, turning classrooms into hubs of environmental responsibility. Partnering with police departments, temples, and pandals has helped the project secure the maximum number of cities taking part in eco-friendly celebrations. It stands as a youth-driven environmental movement that has gained much recognition in both regional and national media.

The event was honoured by Shri Narsimha Komar, Police Commissioner of Vadodara, who inaugurated the ceremony and blessed the children with his words of knowledge. He emphasised the need to celebrate festivals while preserving peace and harmony in the city, and also spoke in praise of the campaign to build responsible future citizens. He said, “This campaign is a shining example of how students and police together can shape a more conscious society. When children create eco-friendly idols and share them with our police stations, it builds a bridge of trust and reminds us that devotion must walk hand in hand with responsibility.”

Other Leaders and collaborators expressed their support for the campaign and its growing impact. Adv. Kunal Sharma, Founder-President, Chhatra Sansad India, shared,“When we started Bachche Bole Moriya in 2018, the vision was simple: if children celebrate responsibly, society will follow. Today, after 8 years, we see eco-friendly Ganesh idols in most households across major cities. This is not just a campaign, it is a movement of young leaders rewriting how India celebrates its festivals.”

Dr. Geetika Madan Patel, Managing Trustee - New Era Senior Secondary School and Anand Vidya Vihar, added,“Festivals are about values. By creating eco-friendly idols and taking them to police stations, these children are not just celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi; they are teaching society how to respect nature, strengthen bonds, and celebrate responsibly. This campaign is sowing the seeds of a greener future led by our youth.”

Ms. Poornima Menon, Principal of Anand Vidya Vihar, said,“When children take the lead in creating eco-friendly idols, they are not only learning values of responsibility but also teaching society the importance of respecting traditions while protecting nature. Our students take great pride in being a part of this movement.” Mrs. Leena Nair, Principal of New Era Senior Secondary School, added, “This campaign has provided our students with an opportunity to practice what they preach about sustainability. It teaches how future citizens should be conscious, compassionate, and responsible in each celebration.”

Looking forward, Bachche Bole Moriya will continue to scale across India by bringing eco-friendly celebrations to more states and cities. Deepen impact by embedding environmental awareness programs into schools. Develop a stronger civic connection by working on joint activities of students, citizens and police. The voice of the children of Vadodara, as they welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes and pandals this year, Vadodara’s children echo a powerful national message:“Protect faith. Protect nature. Celebrate responsibly.”
